Housing

IBERO does not have its own accommodation (such as dormitories, or residences), therefore, through its Housing Office, it offers the following housing alternatives for exchange and visiting students:

  1. Hogares IBERO
  2. Rent accommodation through external providers

1. Hogares IBERO (Homestay)

It is our supervised IBERO housing service, in which a network of host family houses offers their rooms to the IBERO community. In this program, students choose one of the participant houses and pay a supervision fee to IBERO (set at MXN 2,000). This fee guarantees certain quality standards and there is no need for a rent deposit. It also allows the student to have IBERO as an intermediary for agreements, negotiations with the hosts, and conflict resolution. Likewise, all payments are made through the university.

Being part of the program will depend on the availability of houses and rooms for the consecutive period.

Each host defines the cost of their rooms. The supervision fee is a fixed rate.

Application deadlines:

  • Spring Semester: November 1st
  • Summer period: May 1st
  • Fall Semester: June 1st

This option is recommended for those students who want to have a deep immersion in the Mexican culture, as well as for those students who want to increase their Spanish skills.

Please get in touch with the Housing Office for further information.

2. Rent accommodation through external providers

The IBERO Housing Office operates as a link between providers and students for the agreement on the rent of different types of accommodation:

  • Rooms in private houses or apartments, with shared spaces
  • Furnished and unfurnished departments
  • Residences / Colivings
  • Independent suites / Lofts

For these options, the IBERO Housing Office maintains a database with a vast amount of external offerings. We ask students to contact the IBERO Housing Office requesting information about the type of accommodation they are interested in. Each student must contact the providers directly, without further participation from the IBERO Housing Office.

Students may also be interested in sharing expenses with other Mexican students or visitors, in the modality of "roomies". These types of announcements may be limited, and we just recommend them for those students who are previously acquainted.

For this particular option, Universidad Iberoamericana is only a link between both parties involved, without any financial or legal responsibilities regarding the agreement or contract, the rent and services, or any possible dispute between the students and the landlords.

4. General recommendations

Exchange and visiting students should take special care in their accommodation share. We recommend keeping in mind the following points:

  • If possible, visit the place you are interested in, before signing any document that could compromise you in any way.
  • Always sign a leasing contract that sets your rights and obligations, as well as the rights and obligations of the landlord.
  • Try to sign the contract personally.
  • You must keep a copy of the signed contract.
  • It is important to read the contract very well, to know the steps and procedures that must be carried out in case any problem arises.
  • Always request a receipt from the landlord, for all payments you make: security deposit, monthly rent, additional services, etc.
  • Verify that payment methods are through formal and secure means.
